Dr. Shakel Henson graduated from St. George’s University and has successfully completed Bachelors of Science in Medical Sciences, Doctor of Medicine and Masters in Public Health. Thereafter, she did a rotational internship at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital in St. Vincent prior to becoming a registered physician. Dr. Henson is pursuing a Master of Science in International Management with the University of Liverpool and teaches Histology, Embryology and Introduction to Clinical Medicine for the students of AUS from 2013.

Dr. Michael Kazachkov

Biochemistry and Genetics

Dr. Kazachkov has his PhD in Biochemistry from National Academy of Science and his M.Sc. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Kiev State University, both in Ukraine.

Dr. Kazachkov had been associated with University of Saskatchewan, School of Medicine since 2003, where he accomplished his postdoctoral training program in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and since 2007 he had joined the National Research Council of Canada as a Research Associate. His duties included scientific research and teaching responsibilities. His research focused on variety of targets including Alzheimer and Parkinson diseases, cyanogenesis in high plants, phospholipids biosynthesis and turnover. Dr. Kazachkov also has been heavily involved with various international scientific plant biotechnology projects including the Increasing Brassica Oil Content (IBOC), Industrial crops producing added value oils for novel chemicals (ICON) and Total Utilization Flax Genomics (TUFGEN) projects. As a professor in medical biochemistry he is associated with the American University of St. Vincent, School of Medicine. Dr. Kazachkov has over twenty published manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals.

Besides scientific research and teaching, Dr. Kazachkov enjoys scuba diving, photography and hiking.

Dr. Bary Aussi is a medical graduate from Damascus University, Syria. He also completed his Post Graduation in General surgery from Tishreen Military hospital, Syria. Dr. Aussi finished a one year program on Plastic surgery at the National Hospital of Homs in Syria and completed his research on Recurrent Thyroidectomy. Post his relocation to St Vincent and the Grenadines in the year 2008, he established himself as a well-known general surgeon at the Milton Cato Government Hospital. He is teaching Human Anatomy for AUS students from 2012.

Dr. Ratna Perikala, MD was a Graduate of  Guntur Medical College, Nagarjuna University, Andra Pradesh, India.

He did his Residency in Anesthesiology at Guntur General Hospital.

He worked as a Research Associate in Sleep Medicine. VA Hospital, Houston, Texas.

He Was a Anatomy and Physiology Text Book Reviewer.

Now Working as an Assistant Professor of Physiology at American University of St.Vincent school of Medicine.

He has more than 20 yrs of teaching experience in teaching General Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Pharmacy, Micro Biology, Nutrition, and Medical Terminology in Houston, Texas.

Prior to that he worked for 5 yrs as an Assistant Professor Pharmacology, Pathology, Biochemistry, and Embryology in Spartan Health Sciences University School of Medicine, St Lucia, West Indies.

Dr. Ronald Child

Dr. Ronald Child completed his MD at the University of Havana in the year 1989. He has a vast experience in the medical field working as a professor and also as a medical officer. He got registered at the Medical council of Jamaica in the year 1996. He is currently working as a Clinical Instructor and also as a Consultant Surgical Pathologist at the Milton Cato Hospital.  He is an active member of the Jamaica Association of Clinical Pathologists and as a PRO at the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Medical Association. He has given presentations in many countries such as Trinidad, Japan and at SVG. He is part time professor at AUS teaching the fourth semester students Pathology II.

Dr. Rajesh Rawal, an MBBS graduate from Rajiv Gandhi Medical College, India. He did his research on ACE inhibitor study, Diastolic heart failure and pre-operative urinalysis study at Ochsner Clinic Foundation, New Orleans Louisiana in the year 2012. He is also registered practitioner at the Maharashtra Medical Council in India. He has a vast clinical and teaching experience in India as well as in USA. He teaches Behavioral Sciences and Pharmacology for students of AUS from 2013.

Dr. Dommalur Jayarangaiah

Dr.Dommalur Jayarangaiah  has got his MBBS degree from GOVT MEDICAL COLLEGE BELLARY GULBARGA UNIVERSITY IN 1986.He has completed his postgraduate degree in Internal medicine in 1990 from Bangalore medical college  Rajiv Gandhi university Bangalore. He was the best outgoing student in MD with university Gold Medal.

 

He has worked as ESI MEDICAL OFFICER in Bangalore for one year. In 1991 joined Sri Devaraj urs medical college Kolar affiliated to MEDICAL COUNCIL OF INDIA worked till 1999 as ASSOCIATE Professor of medicine. Late 1999 he joined as the consultant physician and Head of the dept of medicine at MILTON CATO MEMORIAL HOSPITAL St Vincent and the Grenadines. He was clinical Prof of medicine Kingstown medical college affiliated to ST GEOGRGIA UNIVERSITY till 2008. From 2009 joined TRINITY SCHOOL OF MEDICINE to 2014 worked as a clinical Prof of medicine. From July 2014 became Dean of AMERICAN UNIVERSITY OF ST VINCENT MEDICAL SCHOOL. During the course of his career he was actively involved in actively involved in the academic activities CME Programs published case reports In addition he taught student of elective clinical rotations from UK, NEW ZEALAND,GERMANY,AUSTRALIA and West Indies university. He is also well versed with the USMLE curriculum.

<p style="text-align: justify">Dr. Samith Ahmed did his MBBS from Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, India. He obtained MD(Pathology) from AJIMS, Mangalore, India and got FAGE from Manipal University. He attended Medical Education Training Program organized by Medical Council of India, New Delhi at its Nodal Centre at Kottayam, Kerala.    Enabling him to teach medical students in a more effective manner. He has done a short certificate course in Diabetes from World Diabetes Foundation, Denmark organized by A Ramchandra Hospital, Chennai, India.
He has worked as Tutor in Forensic Medicine at KMC, Mangalore. Later he worked with Sree Sanjeevini Solutions, Bangalore in pain management using Low level Laser Therapy from Therlase Technologies Inc, Toronto, Canada. Later, he worked as an Assistant Professor in the Dept of Pathology at Azeezia Medical College, Kerala and also as Blood bank officer and Pathologist in the Central Diagnostic Lab, Kollam. He later moved to Curacao and then to Dominica and now has joined AUSSOM as Associate Professor in Pathology. He has 10 Publications in various indexed journals. Apart from his Medical Interests, he plays the Piano and his hobbies include Stamp and Coin collecting. His present Currency Note collection is over 150 countries.</p>

Dr. Samira Abdul Wajid did her MBBS from MS Ramaiah Medical College, Bangalore, India. She obtained her MD(Microbiology) from KVG Medical College, Sullia, India. She has done her CCEBDM(Diabetology) from Public Health Foundation of India, recognized by International Diabetes Federation, Belgium.
She worked as an Assistant professor in department of Microbiology at Oxford Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre, Bangalore and as a consulting doctor for Brooklands Preschool, Bangalore. She later moved to the Caribbean where she worked in Curacao and Dominica before joining AUSSOM as an Associate Professor in Microbiology. She has 2 publications in Indexed Medical Journals.

Dr. Katisha A. Douglas graduated with a MD from the University of Havana, Cuba. On completion; she did her internship at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Her experience included work in the Public Health Department in the Ministry of Health; which involved working at the National HIV/AIDS Secretariat and collaborating with the Department of Health


Promotion and Education. She is a certified HIV/AIDS counsellor and was involved in HIV rapid testing outreach programs and assisted in various training workshops facilitated by the Ministry of Health and Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). She also has experience in the field of education; teaching Sciences and Health Family Life Education. She is a part-time lecturer of Pre-Med Chemistry at the American University of St. Vincent.

Dr. Sonasree Jammulapati is a board-certified Psychiatrist having completed my residency at NTR University of Health Sciences, Andhra Pradesh, India. She graduated from Kathmandu University, Nepal and worked at a tertiary public hospital in India for one year before moving to St Vincent. She is working as a resident psychiatrist at Milton Cato hospital and mental health facility at Calliaqua. She joined AUS recently and teaches Neuroscience on a part-time basis. She is passionate about teaching undergraduate students. Her fields of interest include Adult, Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, and Geriatric Psychiatry.


She is also interested in research in the field of psychiatry and has published two articles in reputed peer-reviewed journals.

DR. DEV KUMAR SHAH

Dr. Dev Kumar Shah has got his MD degree from B. P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS), Nepal in 2011. After completion of his post graduate in Medical Physiology, he joined as an Assistant Professor at Chitwan Medical College, Nepal and later promoted to the post of Associate Professor. In Nepal, he was actively involved in teaching Physiology and Neuroscience to the graduate and postgraduate Medical, Dental, Nursing and other paramedical students apart from research activities in his field and Medical Education for seven years. He has participated in several Teacher’s Training Program and Faculty Development Workshops both as a trainee and a resource person. He has twenty four publications in various reputed international indexed journal. He is also well-versed with USMLE curriculum. In 2018, he joined American University of St. Vincent as an Associate Professor of Physiology and Neuroscience.
